Preamble

The interpretation of a Wide Complex Tachycardia (WCT) is difficult as a large number of ECG criteria exist, which is difficult for an ordinary medical practitioner to remember. This tool is an attempt to overcome this difficulty. This tool is intended to help Registered Medical practitioners. A medical student may use this for educational purposes.

The most likely cause of a WCT is Ventricular Tachycardia (VT). However, in many situations, it is difficult to diagnose a WCT. Here a WCT is analysed in multiple steps. In each step, there are points favoring the diagnosis of VT. The chance for correct diagnosis of VT increases if multiple steps yield the positive response. If any step yields an alternative diagnosis, please review the situation. If still you are in doubt about the diagnosis, the dictum is to consider the WCT as VT and treat /seek a Cardiac electrophysiologist's help depending on clinical judgment.
